Artist Statement
Andrew Field (b.1979) is an established British landscape painter based in
Stratford Upon Avon. His paintings are characterised by gestural paint
application, which relates closely to his expressive approach to art
making. Deeply committed to nature, Field is an artist who endeavours
to communicate how he feels about the landscape that he depicts. Field
uses oil paint in different states, experimenting with the physicality of the
paint and applying colours and brushmarks instinctively using his intuition
to guide the development of his work.
Field takes his inspiration from the landscape of the British Isles, primarily
Cornwall and Devon as well as the Cotswolds and the countryside surrounding
Stratford-Upon-Avon. Water is of huge importance to Field who has fished all
his life. He seeks solace along the river bank searching for inspiration or looking
out to sea along the Cornish coastline. Field lived in Abu Dhabi for eleven years
and painted plein-air on the beaches of Yas Island and Saadiyat Island
Field graduated from Lancaster University in 2001 with a 1st Class Honours Degree in
Art & Design with Geography and has a Masters in Education. He has continued to
paint and teach for the past 25 years. In his twenties and early thirties he lived in Abu Dhabi
painting renditions of the landscape. Field’s paintings can be found in Dubai International
Financial Centre offices including Goldman Sachs, Coutts Bank, Standard & Poor's and
Brunswick in Abu Dhabi. In 2021, Field collaborated with SMC Art Consultancy to
create four large paintings inspired by The British Isles for
SAGA Cruises boutique ship, Spirit of Adventure.
Field has exhibited at Mall Galleries in London with The Royal Society of British Artists,
The Royal Society of Oil Painters as well as The Royal Society of Marine Artists.
Celebrated and highly renowned artist, Chris Levine
selected Field’s painting called ‘Serpentine’ for the ING Discerning EyeExhibition 2024
and purchased the piece. In 2025 Field was voted
Cotswold Artist of the Year 2025, organised by Cotswold Concierge.
