What does the workshop cover?
At Cobbs Farm in Stratford in the Spring everything is starting to bloom! This one day workshop will encourage you to feast your eyes on the wonderful display of fresh cut flowers presented in vases in the 'Private Dining Room' to draw and sketch to observe the shapes, textures and patterns of the natural forms. Those initial drawings will be developed into colour studies to work out composition and focal point before transferring your ideas onto a board or canvas to create a finished painting by the end of the day.
Throughout the day you will learn painting techniques and approaches to colour mixing as well as learning how to develop your own interpretation of the floral still life Andrew will demonstrate how he approaches the subject and his finished paintings will be on display. Andrew will be providing one-to-one tuition and guidance throughout the day with the aim of supporting and encouraging everyone to have fun whilst they paint and explore their creativity.
The workshop combines exploration of techniques and approaches used by different artists, to inspire ideas and use a contextual references to appreciate the development of still life painting.
The workshop will take place in the Private Dining Room but participants are invited to walk around Cobbs Farm in search of inspiration from the wonderful bouquets of flowers on display or from the fauna and flora growing in fields or flowers beds.
Who is the course suitable for?
This course is suitable for beginners and intermediate artists.
What materials do participcants need to bring?
Oil paints or acrylics (this list is a guide only; you can bring what you normally use)
- Titanium White, Cadmium Lemon Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, French Ultramarine, Cobalt Blue, Pthalo Blue, Ivory Black
- A mix of brushes, including some long flat medium and large sized hog hair brushes
- A palette
- Low odour thinners
- A jar for thinners and/or water
- Palette knife (knives) and a palette
- Surfaces to paint on
- A sketchbook and pencils
- Paint rags
Pastries will be provided upon arrival and complimentary coffee and tea will be served throughout the day.
